Matt Ryan has officially lost his nickname Matty Ice.
So Atlanta has had a couple good seasons over the past 10 years maybe. They’ve had a couple good playoff runs under Matt Ryan at QB, but what the hell has happened? Remember that one time it was 28-3 in the Superbowl? Yeah, you know where this is going.
Ever since Bill and the Patriots absolutely embarrassed the Falcons in the Superbowl they have never been the same. Three weeks in a row now that they have blown a double digit lead in the fourth quarter. I know, I thought I was talking about the Lions for a second too. Last year they couldn’t even get anything going to blow a fourth quarter lead.
I know Julio Jones is out, the top receiver for the Falcons, but that shouldn’t be an excuse for a quarterback that was once praised for being so cool, calm and collected, Matty Ice. I mean he went on streaks of weeks at a time throwing 3-4 touchdown passes, having 300+ yards a game. At one point the Falcons were just a guaranteed win. With Freeman in the backfield, Julio Jones and Sanu deep with Matty Ice behind the line never letting a thing phase him and just slinging the ball. So what happened to it?
Well Freeman got injured and that started a land slide of things, Sanu gets traded, Ryan loses his confidence without all these weapons around him. Now that explains the losing, what it doesn’t explain is the double digit fourth quarter leads that are being thrown away. So what does explain it? I’m glad you asked.
Now hear me out, It’s all obvious to me what happened here. Half-time of Superbowl LI, Patriots are down 28-3. Belichick gets nervous, in a last ditch effort to save the game makes a call down to Bourbon street to one of those witch doctors, has a curse placed on Matt Ryan to blow all double digit leads for the rest of his career. BOOM! Superbowl victory for the Patriots, and the Lions aren’t the only team blowing double digit leads for the foreseeable future.
Anyway I don’t really know what is happening to Matt Ryan and the Falcons. I’m sure he’s just taking notes from Toby Keith and he’s just not as good as he once was, and doesn’t have a defense to back him up at all. But it still doesn’t change my mind. Belichick cursed him now it’s just a long hard road to retirement for Matt Ryan. The only ice that is gonna be around Matt Ryan now is the ice cube in his soup in the nursing home, melting away just like his career. R.I.P Matty Ice.
